1 day and 3 day English wheeling courses with one-to-one expert tuition
Have you bought an English wheel, but you’re not sure how to get the best from it? Our English Wheeling courses are designed to give you the confidence to go away and use one on your own – or allow you to see how an English Wheel works and how you get on with it – before making that big purchase for your own workshop. Whilst practice makes perfect, when it comes to learning traditional skills, like craft panel beating, it is far better to be shown how to do it – with guidance and encouragement – rather than attempting to learn from a book or a YouTube video.
Whether you’re a professional, an enthusiast or a complete beginner, we work in small groups with no more than 3 people at a time, giving you the space and attention that you need to learn at your own pace, as you develop a clear understanding of the many different processes involved in vehicle restoration and metal panel creation. Click on the tabs below to find out more about each course.
1 Day Introductory English Wheeling Course
This 1 day course is designed to introduce you to the methods involved in hand forming and wheeling single and 3 dimensional curved metal panels. Intended as an insight into craft panel beating, the course covers a range of different techniques with a variety of equipment, professional tools and machines including the English wheel
Learn how to measure curved panels and create patterns to develop a jig in order to be able to reproduce specific body panels, how to align panels to create classic flowing lines and shape them using industrial tools including one of our 4 traditional English wheeling machines.
We work in small groups of no more than 3, meaning you will receive plenty of hands-on one-to-one tuition and won’t have to wait for a turn on the equipment. This course is designed to give a good insight into craft panel beating, with practical skills that you can take away and practice at home – or as a pre-cursor to our more in-depth 3 day course. If you complete the 1 Day course and decide you’d like to learn more, we will give a you a discount off the price of the 3 day course. Contact us for details!
Our 1 day courses run on the first Monday of each month, We may also run additional 1 day courses, subject to availability. Ask for details.

3 Day Advanced English Wheeling Course
As opposed to the introductory course, which presents you with an overview and a chance to try using different tools and equipment, the 3 Day Course is a more intensive, advanced series of practical sessions. Offering you the chance to learn and take on board many useful, practical metalworking skills which you can take away and apply to your own restoration projects.
Our main aim is to pass on our experience and knowledge with you, in a friendly and relaxed environment. The primary focus is on sharing our wealth of practical skills to ensure that you receive plenty of hands-on experience and individual tuition with our English wheeling equipment and come away with enough confidence to be able to use your own wheeling machine or continue elsewhere. Over the course of the 3 days we will also cover gas welding with aluminium and TIG welding, metal finishing techniques, how to make patterns, how to shrink, stretch and shape metal and anneal aluminium alloy. We will also show you the best methods for flanging and wiring edges – and how to design and manufacture a jig in order to be able to prepare perfectly curved panels to fit specific measurements.
We work in small groups of no more than 3, meaning you will receive plenty of hands-on one-to-one tuition. As the course is run over 3 consecutive days we can also advise you on where to stay locally. Because the groups are small, they can be tailored to suit your individual skill level or focus on some of the specific aspects of craft panel beating that you are most interested in learning.

What our students are saying

“It has been a privilege to have Adrian impart his vast knowledge and experience over the last three days so concise and clearly, and to share in his passion and respect for the history of his craft and trade. The metalworking skills I have learnt will provide me with a solid foundation for the future.”

“Superb 3 days of training/knowledge hand over. Really valuable, and crucially very good fun. Also for me it was great to glean all sorts of other info from you about restoring cars.”

“It was such a great experience and a great course. Thanks to Adrian and the team, I learned a lot about wheeling that will really help me reach my goals with my own projects.”

“I could not be more happy with the courses…humanly and technically far beyond what I expected. A link with the past of this fascinating trade and a strong personal commitment make Adrian unique, amazingly skilled and the only one able to pass on the trade with the care it deserves.”

“With great encouragement and enthusiasm Adrian elevated my existing ability and skills to the next level, during the 3 day Advanced course. His teaching methods, passion for the craft and personality resulted in an upskilling experience that was a joy to undertake. I have secured further commissions for bodywork restoration and bespoke sheet metal artisan pieces, as a direct result of undertaking this specialist training.”
